Tomáš Klepoch

Tomáš Klepoch was born on the 22^nd of July 1981 in Bratislava. He studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Bratislava, at the Department of Visual Communication under the supervision of Professor P. Choma.

Although Tomáš Klepoch belongs to the youngest representatives of Slovak illustrators, his work has been awarded several times. His connection with the traditional Slovak school is clear in his illustrations, but his means of expression are different, new, with the use of computer graphics. Using new technologies, he creates a strong, witty effect.

He often uses various colours; but sometimes his illustrations contain two or three colours at most, obtaining dynamics of the visual side of the book. His stylized figures are deliberately disproportional: the head is inappropriately big compared to the body, highlighting expressiveness of the scene. However, at the same time his illustrations offer also an ironical exaggeration and a certain playfulness. In his work there's often an ironic paraphrase. According to his own words, he tries not to underestimate the child and makes the illustration for everyone disregarding their age. Beside the illustration, he focuses also on a graphic design, painting and printmaking.
