Ludvík Kadleček
Biography
Ludvík Kadleček was born on the 22nd of January 1928 in Ústí nad Orlicí. Originally educated in woodcarving, he studied at the Academy of Applied Arts in Prague and later at the Artistic Industrial School in Zlín. In 1953 he entered into the State Puppet Film in Zlín (Czechoslovakia) where he had been engaged first as a designer, later also as a director untill his retirement. He died on the 12th of February 2010 in Zlín.

Kadleček was a designer, animator and director. In his animated films he presented a cultured, imaginative and inventive art with feeling for functional application of a wide variety of technologies and materials (puppets, cutouts, collage and plasticine) for different genres. Keeping in mind the children’s audience he preferred the poetic and witty atmosphere. As a director and designer he created a number of essential works of bed-time stories based on outstanding children’s literature authors, like The Sweepman (1976), Blyskáčik and Hromotĺk (1978), Ladybug Anulienka (1985), Hello, Buddy! (1999), The Aviatic Stories (2001).
