Vladimír Malík
Biography
Vladimír Malík graduated from the Faculty of Architecture at the Slovak Technical University in Bratislava but he has been more interested in the world of animation. He started working as a colourist and later as a designer, animator, scriptwriter and director at the Studio of Animated Films in Bratislava. In 90s Malík founded his own Domček Studio producing bed-time stories for the Slovak TV. Since 2003 he has been working at the Department of Animation at the Academy of Performing Arts in Bratislava, at present as a docent. He led some international workshops, worked in an advertising area and made graphic design of several dusk jackets.

We know Vladimír Malík not only as an original designer and director of animated films but also as an experienced lecturer at the Department of Animation at the Film and TV Faculty of the Academy of Performing Arts in Bratislava. He remarkably contributed to creation of a joint Slovak-Bulgarian co-producted animated series „The Baby“ (1987-1992) where he participated as an animator and Slovak part director. The TV bed-time story series „Why“ and „Tale of King Fiškus“ created in his Domček Studio have already found their place in the golden fund of the Slovak Television and their repeats still win new grateful viewers. He also participated in other successful projects, namely as a director and script co-author of an animated film „The Story of Bratislava Castle“ (2011) created for the Slovak National Museum as well as as a designer and author of animation graphics in the documentary series „Mission Thessaloniki“ (2013) made for the Slovak TV. As a designer, he created figures that were close to children and enriched the stories with playful fantasy and variety of colours. As a director, he created stories with outstanding points, humorous miniatures and interesting details. His work has won a number of awards at film and TV festivals, i.e. Gottwaldov (1988), České Budějovice (1988), Montenegro (1998), Bratislava – Prix Danube (2001), BAB (2011).
