Jannick Hastrup is an important personality of Danish animated film. Since the 1960s, he has made more than sixty short films, ten animated feature films and several successful TV series. Typical features of his work are social or ecological topics, emphasis on the story as well as a sensitive choice of visuals. It does not mater that the film is made for children or adults, i tis always understandable even for people outside the target audience. Hastrup´s common topics are: characters having responsibility for their own decisions, relationships to their surroundings and nature.

There is plenty of humour and playfulness in Hastrup´s films, even though they take place in different timelines and environments and they debate current topics. In the chosen topics, he focuses on more general level and supertemporal dimension. To emphasize the message of his works, Jannick Hastrup is inspired by works of classic literature.
