Michael Dudok de Wit

Michael Dudok de Wit was born in Abcoude in the Netherlands.  After his high school education in the Netherlands, he attended the Geneva School of Fine Arts. In 1978, he graduated from the West Surrey College of Art & Design (now the University for the Creative Arts) with his first film The Interview.

Alongside film production he writes and illustrates children’s books and teaches animation at art schools and universities. The Oscar and dozens of awards were bestowed for his unforgettable nine-minute film Father and Daughter (2000). Illustrations to book of the same title brought him also the Golden Apple at the Biennial of Illustrations Bratislava in 2003. Another short film, The Aroma of Tea (2006) is inspired by Asian art and culture. In 2016, he completed The Red Turtle, his latest film and feature debut with support from Ghibli, the Japanese studio. This film earned Michael Dudok de Wit another Academy Award nomination and received a host of other awards.
