Ľuboslav Paľo

Ľuboslav Paľo was born on the 14^th of June 1968 in the town of Vranov nad Topľou. He graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts in Bratislava, the Department of Printmaking and Book Illustration headed by Professor Dušan Kállay. He works as a teacher at the Academy of Fine Arts in Bratislava, the Department of Printmaking and Book Illustration.

Ľuboslav Paľo was awarded a Golden Apple at the Biennial of Illustrations Bratislava in 2005. He represents the middle generation of Slovak illustrators. Recently he has become an artist in demand. His style has acquired its particular form, recognized on the market both at home and abroad. He uses colour in a painterly manner: it is rich, massive and layered in contrasting combinations. He limits his compositional space; at times he uses colourfulness, at other times he allows figures much air and space. His concentration on zoomorphic shapes is playful; he endows his figures human characteristics, wit and charm. His work is close to so called Picture Book, which he elaborated a theoretical study about during his studies at the Academy of Fine Arts in Bratislava. The illustrator is active also as a teacher, he lectures at workshops for illustrators. He is also a member of various international juries and a participant in exhibitions abroad.
