Biography
Michel Ocelot was born in Villefranche-sur-Mer on Cote d´Azur in 1943 and spent a part of his childhood in Guinea. Ocelot initially studied at the School of Arts in Rouen, then continued his studies at the University of Decorative Arts in Paris and later at the California Institute of the Arts in Los Angeles. In period 1994 – 2000 he had been heading ASIFA, the International Animated Film Association. Ocelot now lives and works in Paris.

French director, designer, animator, screenwriter and notable storyteller. Beside a number of animated TV films he has devoted to creation of his own short films. Most of his works are exclusively within the genres of fairy tales and fantasy, visually they are characterized by a rigid use of the side-on, straight-on and ¾ viewpoints of silhouette and cutout animation, using also the shadow theatre style. His works like The Three Inventors (Les trois inventeurs, 1979), The Legend of the Poor Hunchback (La légende du pauvre bossu, 1982), Kirikou and the Sorceress (Kirikou et la sorciére, 1998) and Princes and Princesses (Princes et Princesses, 2000) gained him an international recognition and awards. Moreover, Ocelot directed the music video to the song Earth Intruders for the Icelandic musician Björk.
