Paul Driessen was born in 1940 in Nijmegen, the Netherlands. After graduating from graphic design and illustration studies at the Art Academy in Utrecht, he began animating TV-commercials for Cine Cartoon Centre in Hilversum, Holland. Georges Dunning hired him as an animator for his feature animation film Yellow Submarine (1968). In 1972 Driessen moved to Canada where he became a member of the National Film Board of Canada. In 1970s he preferred changing his roles of a producer, director and animator. In the 1980s Driessen taught animation at the University of Kassel, Germany. He has won more than 70 international prizes and awards for his films, including the Life Achievement Awards at Annecy, Ottawa (1994) and Zagreb (2002) animation festivals. His film 3 Misses earned him an Oscar nomination in 2000.

Paul Driessen is one of the most distinguished animation authors in the world. The works by this Oscar-nominated Dutch author, a master of the absurdist humor, are characterised with philosophical plot and minimalist lines. He divides his films into purposeful films (e.g. Cats' Cradle or On Land, At Sea and In the Air), short „gags" (The Killing of an Egg) and dramatic structures (An Old Box). Visual comedy plays an important role in all of these works. Paul Driessen is an author with a boundless imagination, all the time confronting the viewer with the reality of the world, reminding him repeatedly the relativity of things and omnipresent paradoxes.
