Garri Bardin was born September 11, 1941 in the city of Orenburg. After the graduation from V.I.Nemirovich-Danchenko Drama School he worked as actor in Gogol Theater and was in the films. In 1974 he was invited to Moscow Puppet Theater as a producer. In 1975 Garri Bardin started to work as an animated cartoon director at “Soyuzmultfilm” Studios where he made 15 films. In 1991 Garri Bardin and the group started his own studio "Stayer" where he has been working up to now. His films have won him many prestigous awards and prizes like Nika Award, Golden Palm (Cannes) and  the State Prize of the Russian Federation.

Garri Bardin is a Russian animation director, screenwriter, producer and director. His closeness to puppet theatre is quite obvious in his films. The author is fascinated by object, material and matter. By means of various techniques he is able to anthropomorphise any subject, e.g. colour matches (Conflict, 1983), cords (Marriage, 1987), wire (Little Decorations, 1987). A special chapter of Bardin’s work is represented by the technique of plasticine animation, the material is left its plasticity and elasticity, and thus his puppet heroes are given a new scale of movement possibilities.

However, for Garri Bardin the form is always only a way of interpreting the content. His films often have a distinct sociopolitical subtext - Break! (1985), A Grey Wolf and the Little Red Riding Hood (1990).  In the medium-length film Puss in Boots (1995) he interpretes in an ironic manner the current problems of the new Russian society. Bardin had turned to children by the three-part series of magic puppet stories on a fictitious babysitter, Tchutcha (1997, 2001, 2004). His only feature-length film The Ugly Duckling (2010) emphasises the need for tolerance, the author goes back to his favourite genre, the musical, with singing and dancing.
