Biography
Per Åhlin was born in 1931. Already as a child he was fascinated by cinema and at the age of eleven he theoretically knew how to make animated films. As soon as he had finished school he took up advertising design without any special training. Some years later he became a freelance illustrator. In the begining of the sixties he started making short animated films for cabarets and soon joined the distinguished Swedish entertainers, Hans Alfredson and Tage Danielsson, with whom he also worked as scenographer and costume designer. In 1968 his first feature film Out of an Old Man's Head was released - a mixture of live animation - and the same year he set up his own animation studio. In 1974 his second film - Thundering Fatty - had its premiere. The work on Voyage to Melonia began in 1983 and it took six years to complete it, probably not a long time considering a minimal team of artists involved in production of this full-lenght feature film.
