Dressed Time

This exposition presents the mysterious language of dressing, its history, origins, and methods of manufacture of various types of fabric. The ranges of topics covered at the display vary from Egypt, Crete and Mycenae, Ancient Greece and Rome, the Byzantine, Roman, to the Gothic and Renaissance fashion, Baroque and Rococo style throughout the 19th and 20th centuries. Chilren discover that people have always wanted to distinguish themselves from one another, that the knitting technique was invented by French men, and that the first needleworks came from England. Visitors may also try on the dresses or other fashion accessories from different historical periods.
