Travelling Exhibition of Andersen's FairyTales Illustrations

Hans Christian Andersen (1805-1875) was a world-famous Danish storyteller who had created his most magnificent stories by the age of 25. He claimed that ´life is a beautiful fairy tale´. However, his tales do not always have a happy ending. The illustrations of these fairy tales lead the viewer into a gloomy forest, depict a princess who did not sleep well or witness a shipwreck sinking. The earthy tones of the illustrations reflect the author´s troubled life. But every end is followed by a new beginning.

Travelling exhibition of Andersen's fairy-tales illustrations presents the artwork created by Ján Kurinec for the book  Г. Х. Андерсен: Приповідкы / H. Ch. Andersen: Prypovidkŷ. The book was published by the molodŷ.Rusynŷ Civic Association in 2011.

Ján Kurinec (1983) is one of the leading Slovak illustrators who focuses mainly on books for older children. He has won several awards for his book illustration work; he also represented Slovakia at the worldwide illustrators' competition – the Biennial of Illustrations Bratislava in 2021. Andersen's fairy tales illustrations were created by digital graphics. Ján Kurinec excels in drawing the human figure. His illustrations are distinctive for using an open perspective and the depiction of water.
