Since 1985, the BIB – UNESCO Albín Brunovský workshop has been a crucial part of the Biennial of Illustrations Bratislava, specially organised for young illustrators. Several notable illustrators, such as Albín Brunovský, Karol Ondreička, Dušan Kállay, Martin Kellenberger, Peter Uchnár, Juraj Martiška, and Miroslav Regitko, led the creative workshop. Over the years, the workshop has hosted more than 200 illustrators from around the world.
The exhibition “Superheroes in Bratislava – Non-traditional tradition” displays a collection of original illustrations from the 2023 workshop led by Ľuboslav Paľo, a recognised Slovak illustrator and educator. Each workshop focuses on a specific theme, and each participating illustrator creates a story, motive, or hero inspired by our local environment or folklore.
The workshops aim to put a fresh spin on traditional motifs, examining them through the eyes of individual authors, current artistic approaches, and the lens of modern times.
