The international competitive exhibition of original children’s book illustrations—the Bratislava Biennial of Illustrations (BIB)—is one of the most significant events held under the auspices of UNESCO and the International Board on Books for Young People (IBBY), with the support of the Ministry of Culture of the Slovak Republic. The main organizer is BIBIANA, the International House of Art for Children. Every other year in the fall, the Bratislava Biennial of Illustrations brings together the best
of global illustration. In the 2023 edition, 275 illustrators from 36 countries competed.
The artists submitted a total of 2,072 illustrations from 355 books. The award-winning illustrations are characterized by a strong artistic approach that stimulates curiosity and a deeper exploration of the book’s visual language and of oneself.
