Superheroes in Bratislava, Ružinov Library

Since 1983, the Bratislava Biennial of Illustrations has included the BIB – UNESCO Workshop by Albín Brunovský for young illustrators. These creative workshops have been led by several prominent illustrators – Albín Brunovský, Karol Ondreička, Dušan Kállay, Martin Kellenberger, Peter Uchnár, Juraj Martiška, Miroslav Regitko, and others. Over the years, more than 200 illustrators from around the world have participated in the workshop.

The exhibition Superheroes in Bratislava, subtitled Tradition Unconventionally, presents a collection of original illustrations from the 2023 workshop led by renowned Slovak illustrator and educator Ľuboslav Paľo. Each of the participating illustrators prepared a story, motif, or hero from their domestic (folkloric) environment within the given theme.

The aim of the workshop was to "update" traditional motifs through the personal perspective of the authors, contemporary visual language, and the optics of today.
