HELLO! THE DANUBE – ROMANIA

The Danube Delta comes to life in photographs. BIBIANA showcases Romania’s UNESCO heritage

Following the presentations on Slovakia and Germany, we have opened a new exhibition at the Danube Gallery, as part of the ‘Hello! Danube’ exhibition, dedicated to the Romanian section of the river. The photographic exhibition The Danube Delta – UNESCO Heritage showcases the work of photographer Florin Andreescu and introduces visitors to the unique landscape of the Danube Delta.

According to Călin Fabian, the Romanian Ambassador to Slovakia, Florin Andreescu’s photographs do not focus solely on the landscape itself. They also capture “the unique, ever-changing light of the delta”, its profound silence and pulsating life. It is through these photographs that the exhibition reminds us why the Danube Delta is a precious UNESCO World Heritage Site and why it is important to protect it.

The new exhibition at the Danube Gallery thus continues its journey along one of Europe’s most significant rivers. This time, it takes visitors all the way to its fascinating conclusion – to the landscape where the Danube branches out into thousands of waterways and finally meets the Black Sea.

The exhibition has been organised by BIBIANA in collaboration with the Romanian Embassy in Slovakia and the Romanian Cultural Institute in Prague. The exhibition aims not only to showcase Romania’s natural beauty, but also to invite visitors to explore further the countries connected by the Danube.

Part of the wider ‘Hello! Danube’ project is the international art competition ‘Stories on the Danube’, in which children from countries along the Danube can take part. Their task is to illustrate a selected local legend or folktale. BIBIANA also hopes that information about the competition will reach Romanian schools and that children there will take part with their own stories about the Danube.
