From 10 September 2026, BIBIANA will be exhibiting illustrations by the winners of the BIB Children’s Jury Prize 1993–2025 at the Novohrad Library in Lučenec. In collaboration with the children’s magazine Fifík, published by Perfekt, the Bratislava Biennial of Illustrations also features a children’s jury, whose members are children and pupils from art schools, mainly from western Slovakia. As BIB focuses on original illustrations for children, the views of the young audience themselves are an integral part of this event. Their award has a special and symbolic character; the prize itself is handcrafted by members of the children’s jury and is presented to the winner directly by the chair of the children’s jury during the awards ceremony. Since its inception in 1993, it has been awarded to 17 illustrators to date, most frequently from Europe, whilst artists from Asia have also won it on five occasions. The very first recipient of the Children’s Jury Prize was the Slovak illustrator Igor Piačka. Slovakia also has the most laureates – four in total; apart from Piačka, these are Svetozár Košický and Peter Uchnár, who has even won it twice. Only two artists in the history of the Biennale have achieved this: Peter Uchnár and the Dutch illustrator Charlotte Dematons. The Netherlands, along with Japan, has three winners, which is the second-highest number after Slovakia. The current winner of the BIB 2025 Children’s Jury Prize, Chiaki Okada, is also from Japan.
Artists from the Republic of Korea have won it twice, whilst France, Poland, Slovenia, Serbia and Ukraine each have one winner. The exhibition ‘Winners of the BIB Children’s Jury Prize 1993–2025’ at the Novohrad Library in Lučenec will run until 31 October 2026.
