During the years 1956-1978, the IBBY Honour List was called The H. C. Andersen´s Awards Honour List. Since 1980, it is awarded by the International Board on Books for Young People to an author, illustrator, and a translator for a significant work for children and youth, published during the period of the years between two awarding ceremonies. The conferments of the diplomas are suggested by national IBBY sections in two-years intervals.
Diplomas of the IBBY Honour List 2008 were awarded to: Erik Jakub Groch for his Whistler (Píšťalkár) book, published by civic association Slniečkovo; Kamila Štanclová and Dušan Kállay for their illustrations of the Fairy Tales by Hans Christian Andersen published by Slovart; and Jarmila Samcová for her translation of The Education of Little Tree by F. Carter, published by Artforum.
