
Igor Piačka
Biography
Igor Piačka was born on the 8th of October 1962 in the town of Třebíč in the Czech Republic. He studied at the Printmaking and Book Illustration Department of the Academy of Fine Arts in Bratislava under the supervision of Professor Albín Brunovský. He also attended courses at the Academie Royale des Beaux Arts in Brussels.
Illustration Features
His first illustrations were created for the book The Good Soldier Švejk as a semester paper during his studies at the Academy. For more than ten years he taught at the the Academy of Fine Arts in Bratislava, lecturing the course of figure painting. Currently he is a freelancer and focuses on printmaking, painting, drawing, bookplate and stamp art. Well elaborated drawing combined with expressive colours is typical for his work. Emotional dimension is significant in his illustrations: his figures express their emotions with no embellishment, in manners typical of real life. His illustrations offer much of the story, thrill and dramatic turns. He likes depicting of mythological stories, both antic stories of old China and Slovak myth and legends, which give him opportunities to reflect different characters of human nature.
