Katarína Macurová
Biography
In 2007 Katarína Macurová graduated with master degree from the Academy of Fine Arts and Design (VŠVU) in Bratislava, the department of graphic art and book illustration under leadership of prof. Dušan Kállay. Since completing her studies with the doctorate (Art.D) in visual arts in 2010, she has been the teaching assistant at the department of graphic art and other media at VŠVU.
Illustration Features
The basic source of Katarína Macurová´s inspiration comes from her numerous travels and experience connected with learning new countries, cultures and customs. As early as during her academic studies she undertook several scholarships abroad (Greece, Mexico, USA, Spain). She lived for a longer time in Scotland and visited many other countries including Cuba, Guatemala, Belize, Vietnam and India. All visited countries left their imprints on her illustrations and book projects. In her work she combines the classical art techniques like printmaking and painting with new media, mainly digital painting and 3D modelling. The selection of particular technique is subordinated to a nature of the story which is being illustrated. Her unique style is an outcome of the original 2D illustration reverse „recycling“ into a texture and its following application to a 3D illustration. The objects are composed of tiny groups of polygons which keep the form and texture of original painting, illustration or linocut.
