Vlasta Pospíšilová
Biography
Vlasta Pospíšilová studied puppet theatre and stage design at the College of Applied Arts and Crafts (VŠUP) in Prague. After graduation she entered a job of animator assistant at the Studio of Puppet Film in Prague. Since the sixties Pospíšilová has devoted to directing the puppet films for children.

Vlasta Pospíšilová is a director and excellent animator, who had her first experience with animation and puppet film at the end of the 1950s under the artistic supervision by Jiří Trnka. Soon she was among the forefront animators of the Prague Puppet Film Studio, such as Jan Karpaš, Bohuslav Šrámek, Břetislav Pojar and Stanislav Látal. In his works, Trnka assigned to Pospíšilová especially such roles that required conveying subtle nuances of feelings, above all those of female characters, for example when animating a lantern fly watering primroses in A Midsummer Night’s Dream/Sen noci svätojánskej /1959/, a girl in film Cybernetic Granny/Kybernetická babička/1962/ or naïve Mrs. Goose in a puppet adaptation of Gabriel, the Archangel and Mrs. Goose/Archanjel Gabriel a pani Husa /1964/. Since the end of the 1970s, she has been working as both animator and director. The common motive of her films has been a fairy tale in all of its various forms. In case of each and every topic, she is very careful when choosing visual and sound elements, each time along with brilliant animation. She always abides by Jiří Trnka’s principles: never to repeat the same as was done in previous films, to expand present experience, to search for new means and forms of expression.
