Marián Čapka

He was born on August 14, 1950, in Žilina. He studied at the Secondary School of Applied Arts in Bratislava under Professors Gabriel Štrba and Oto Lupták. He graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts in the department of free graphic art and book illustration under Associate Professor Albín Brunovský. He has been dedicated to illustration since the 1970s. He illustrates books by both Slovak and international authors. His books have been published not only in Slovakia but also in several other countries abroad.

In his illustration work, he primarily uses the watercolor technique, adhering to a strong line with clear and delicate coloring. This allows him to achieve both poetic and dramatic expressions in his images. He has a sense for detail and fine drawing, which he brings into the fairy-tale setting. The warm color tones enhance the poetic quality of his illustrations. His illustrations have a realistic style, close to a child’s way of perceiving the world.

In addition to illustration, he is involved in painting and printmaking.
