Illustration Features

Dana Moravčíková represents young generation of illustrators with her immensely calm, unobtrusive and poetic style. Her illustrations are unusually fragile, without clear borderlines, often growing out of the background and her composition often seems without without clearly designed structure. Figures have got their dignified faces and often just the faces, because their bodies disappear in the background. However, the overall expression is even more concrete and the image is based only on the atmosphere and the mood of the story. The illustrations are lyrical, incospicuous and smart. They do not aspire to attack visually and rather present refined ideas and messages. For the artist are typical two phenomenons, both outstanding and mutually supportive – the intellectual level strengthen by a clear rational judgement, and a natural, feminine, fragile emotional bound with the story or the figure. This precious magic tension can be felt from her images, which tell evident truth emerging from a transparent mist. Her work is unique and serious in its calmness It does not attack, but approaches its perceiver inconspicuously, humbly to the reader, but its approach to the text which the artist illustrates is very exacting. The artist transforms subconsciously to her pictures a kind of a dual principle. Her illustrations have encoded in them a masculine (let's say rational) phenomenon, which is balanced by entirely feminine element of fragility. This contrast creates spontaneous artistic and expressive tension that makes her work attractive, demanding reflection and slightly controversial. However, this kind of 'controversy' is so inconspicuous, that it is necessary to get into the depth of her picture to be able to notice it. Also this is a powerful charge of her illustration.
