Dušan Nágel
Biography
Dušan Nágel was born on the 28th of December 1949 in the town of Rimavská Sobota. He studied at the Secondary School of Applied Arts and at the Academy of Fine Arts in Bratislava, in the Studio of the Book Illustration under the supervision of Professor Albín Brunovský. He worked as a teacher; he also was a member of the Radošina Naive Theatre, for whom he created posters too.
Illustration Features
Dušan Nágel illustrated dozens of books for adults and children of all age groups. His work is characterized by a brilliant, elaborate drawing thanks to which even his black and white drawings give the impression of diversity of colours. Focusing on the essence of the matter and depicting it in various contexts and relations, he is attentive to even the smallest detail. His illustrations are realistic, only suitably stylized. Despite his use of decent pastel colours, a certain implicit expressiveness may be felt in his work. His sense of artistic humour became an inherent part of his art work. Besides illustrating books, he devotes himself to printmaking, painting and stamp design.
