The Most Beautiful and Best Children's Books

The Competition for the Most Beautiful Children’s Books was established in 1990 with the aim of supporting the publication of visually outstanding books for children and young adults. In 1991, it was expanded to include the evaluation of literary qualities. The competition is organized by BIBIANA and the Slovak Section of IBBY. As part of the competition, a literary jury selects the Best Children’s Book published in Slovakia during the previous year; the award is presented to the author, editor/compiler or translator, and publisher. At the same time, an art jury awards the title of the Most Beautiful Children’s Book to the illustrator and publisher of the selected title.

In recent years, the tradition of evaluating children’s book production has continued through an annual assessment. Within this framework, the organizers compile a selection of the most outstanding works in terms of both literary and visual quality under the title Remarkable Books for Children.
