The International Board on Books for Young People (IBBY) presents the Hans Christian Andersen Award 1988 to Dušan Kállay for his contribution to illustrating children’s literature. Complex and multilayered illustration outcome of this leading Slovak artist ranging from classical works of children’s literature up to modern titles is significant for his very original artistic style, novelty and imagination. Kállay’s illustrations fulfil the responsibility toward the text and at the same time meet the top criteria of the art of book illustration dedicated to children’s reader.
